News from Pianeta Amiga being held in Bologna, Italy, this weekend is starting to trickle in. The big news items for the next generation Amiga community so far are:

Like a bolt out of the blue, a new OS update is here, but unlike previous updates to the Amiga operating system, this one has but one major feature: the inclusion of a new AmiUpdate-based machanism to deliver software updates from Hyperion to you when they're ready. Before we'd have to wait until enough bug fixes or new features were collected to deliver in a packaged udpate, but no more. The days of downloading, decompressing, and installing monolithic OS updates are over.

We asked, you responded: after announcing our contest to see who could add the most content to IntuitionBase, we're thrilled to announce today the contest results. Nearly 150 new software titles and 100 compatible hardware products were added to our compatibility databases; nearly 100 software entries updated and corrected; new links; new dealers; and one heck of a lot of points.

In conjunction with Bill Eaves IntuitionBase is proud to announce it will be demonstrating the latest version of Digital Universe at AmiWest 2012! The premier astronomy package for Amiga computers, Digital Universe allows the amateur astronomer to explore the heavens quickly, easily, and beautifully from your next-generation Amiga.

If you're on the fence and you'd like to test drive a new-generation Amiga system, the IntuitionBase table at AmiWest is the place for you! Want to try out classics like SoundFX, ProTracker, ArtEffect, Aladdin 4D, DrawStudio, fxPaint, imageFX, LightWave 3D, Photogenics, AmigaWriter, FinalWriter, TurboCalc? We've got you covered. The much awaited Amiga netbook may not be here yet, but that doesn't mean our AmigaOne machines have to be limited by the length of our Ethernet cables. Check out our step-by-step guide on getting wireless networking up and running on your next-generation Amiga.

There's not much out there in terms of office applications for next-generation Amigas, but one word processor is still being actively sold and supported. Check out our review of AmigaWriter 2.2 and see if it fits the bill for your next software purchase.

It may seem odd to bother with wireless networking on our next-generation Amigas; after all, they are -- at least for the moment -- all sedentary desktop systems. But wireless networking is still a very useful add-on, even if our machines don't see too much movement. For one thing most homes already have a wireless router, and having wireless capabilities on our Amigas mean being able to place it anywhere in the home or office we choose, without worrying about Ethernet cables.
